FOUNDING MEMBER
Wakio Mwandacha, a dynamic Human Resource Management undergraduate and staunch LGBTIQ activist, stands at the forefront of creating inclusive and empowering spaces for the LBQ community in Kenya. As the Executive Director of Utopia Network Kenya, Wakio leads a formidable collective of professional women from both the private and public sectors, united by their experiences as lesbian, bisexual, queer, and non-binary individuals.
Under Wakio’s leadership, Utopia Network Kenya thrives as a beacon of support and advocacy, fostering cultures of belonging within workplaces. The organization is dedicated to assisting LBQ women in realizing their most authentic and powerful selves, navigating the complexities of their identities with confidence and pride.
Wakio’s activism is deeply personal. As a queer woman and a feminine body navigating a patriarchal society, she passionately affirms her womanness and queerness, challenging societal norms and breaking down barriers. Her work within LBQ spaces is transformative, creating platforms for conversation, imagination, unity, and critical questioning. Through her efforts, Wakio envisions a future where the LGBTIQ community is unequivocally valid and celebrated.
Beyond her activism, Wakio finds solace and joy in swimming, an activity that rejuvenates her spirit. She is also an ardent animal lover, with a particular affection for cats and a secret soft spot for dogs.

Beryl S.
FOUNDING MEMBER
As an Advocate for Diversity and Inclusion, Beryl Samba stands as a visionary and a founding member of Utopia Network Kenya (UN-K), an organization dedicated to reshaping work environments and driving impactful change. With over a decade of experience as an activist and a chartered accountant, Beryl boldly leads initiatives at UN-K that fuel Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
Beryl is unwavering in their commitment to constructing environments of equality and inclusion while fervently advocating for LBQ+ rights and tirelessly working to empower individuals and dismantle oppressive systems. Embracing the power of community and collaboration, Beryl’s work at UN-K is a reflection of their steadfast dedication to these principles.
Beyond their professional endeavors, Beryl fearlessly champions a multitude of social justice causes, emphasizing the vital importance of creating inclusive workspaces where all individuals feel valued, respected, and have equal opportunities for growth and success. Beryl also exhibits a strong affinity for animals, particularly dogs, and is dedicated to promoting animal welfare.
In their leisure time, Beryl confidently engages in physical fitness activities, reading, traveling, swimming, and dancing, showcasing their dedication to a balanced and holistic approach to life and work.
